Why paste instead of upload?
When you copy text out of a PDF, you get it in the order the PDF stores it, which is close to what a resume parser starts with. If your columns come out interleaved or your contact line turns into stray symbols when you paste, that's the same raw text software has to work with.

Does this show exactly how Workday or Greenhouse will read my resume?
No. Applicant tracking systems don't publish how their parsers work, and many license parsing from other companies. This test checks for formatting problems that commonly cause parsing errors across systems: missing or unusual section headings, icon-font characters, ligatures, year-only dates, merged columns, and skills that never appear in your experience.
Is my resume uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. The check runs in your browser. The text you paste isn't sent to a server or saved, and it's gone when you leave the page.
My PDF looks fine. Why does the pasted text look scrambled?
A PDF stores text as positioned pieces, not in reading order. Multi-column layouts, tables and text boxes often come out interleaved when the text is extracted, which is what copying does. A single-column layout avoids most of this.
